FAQ for Presenters

Fort Bend County AAUW “Expanding Your Horizons” 2006

Thank you again!  for agreeing to present two career workshops at Expanding Your Horizons on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Stafford Middle School.

What should I bring?

You will be presenting the same 45-minute workshop twice, so please bring enough materials, supplies, and handouts for both. Participation is limited to 15 girls per workshop, so you should not need more than 30 of anything.

What do I wear?

Wear what you would typically wear to work, making it comfortable for a Saturday presentation. If you are a dentist or lab tech, your lab coat is appropriate. If you are physical fitness trainer, wear your work-out attire.

How do I get to the conference?

Stafford Middle School is at 1625 Staffordshire Road in StaffordIf you are approaching from U.S. 59, exit U.S. 90 ALT and head east on U.S. 90.  Proceed approximately 2.2 miles. Take a slight right onto Staffordshire Road.  Proceed .7 mile.  Turn right onto First Street, which then becomes Staffordshire Road.  You are now less than a mile from the school, which will be on your left.  This is a complex of four schools:  the elementary/ intermediate school is first, then the middle school behind the Community Center (the small old one, not the new one) last is the high school and stadium. Here is a map link.

Where do I park?

There are two parking lots behind the Stafford Community Center and in front of the Stafford Middle School. Here is a sketch..  You may park in either, or pull up to the entrance to unload – look for balloons.

Do I need to check-in when I arrive?

Yes. When you arrive at the school complex, please stop by the Presenters’ Check-In Table near the front door for your packet and room assignment.  We will have a number of able young volunteers (with luggage dollies) to help you ferry materials to your classroom, assist you with handouts and workshop activities, introduce you to the workshop attendees, and help you re-load.  There will also be an adult facilitator in each workshop to serve as fire safety/ first aid director.

Please be in your classroom and ready to greet early arrivals by 10:00.  Please dismiss your second workshop by 12:00 noon at the latest. Then let the high school girls help you clear out your room and join us for lunch.

What should afternoon presenters know?

You may eat lunch in your classroom if that allows you more time to get set up, or join us in the Commons.  After your final session, please allow students 10 minutes to complete any evaluation materials.  Then they should proceed back to the Commons for the Closing Session at 2:30.
